Located northeast of Masjid al-Haram in Makkah, about 4 km from the Haram, Jabal al-Nour rises 642 meters above sea level. Within it lies Ghar Hiraʾ, where Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) used to retreat in devotion before his mission.

Here, the Archangel Jibreel (AS) descended for the first time, marking the beginning of divine revelation and the Prophet’s message.

The mountain was named “Jabal al-Nour” (Mountain of Light), symbolizing the illumination of the Prophet’s heart during that first encounter with the Angel of Revelation.
