Located approximately 22 kilometers east of Makkah, the Plain of Arafat is the spiritual core of the Hajj pilgrimage. On the 9th day of Dhul-Hijjah, millions of pilgrims converge on this vast expanse to perform the most crucial rite: the standing at Arafat. This sacred place holds historical significance as the location where Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) delivered his Farewell Sermon.
It features wide, flat plains that can accommodate millions of pilgrims and includes prominent landmarks such as Mount of Mercy (Jabal al-Rahmah) and Namira Mosque. Well-prepared pathways and directional signs facilitate the movement of pilgrims, making the experience of standing at ‘Arafah a comprehensive one that combines reflection, worship, spirituality, and organization.
Jabal al-Rahmah (Mount of Mercy), 22 km east of Makkah in the plain of Arafat, is a revered landmark in the Hajj pilgrimage. Believed to be where Adam and Eve reunited and where Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) delivered his Farewell Sermon, the mount rises 65 meters above the ground, featuring solid black stones and a seven-meter summit marker guiding pilgrims. Its sacred history and striking presence make it a profound spiritual experience for all visitors.

For those seeking a recreational escape in Makkah, Arak Park is an ideal choice. Blending natural beauty with modern landscape design, it offers a relaxing environment where families and visitors of all ages can enjoy green spaces, fresh air, and contemporary amenities.

East of Makkah, about 7 kilometers from the Grand Mosque.
Mina valley is located on the road between Makkah and Jabal ‘Arafah, approximately 6 kilometers from the Sacred Mosque.
It is the site where pilgrims spend the night while performing their rituals and serves as a key station during a visit to Makkah.
It covers a vast area, featuring large grounds designated for the throwing of the Jamarat, alongside massive and modern facilities, most notably the famous Jamarāt Bridge. Each year, thousands of white tents adorn the area, providing a safe and comfortable environment for pilgrims.
The Jamarat Bridge is located in Mina, about 7 kilometers east of the Grand Mosque.
Jamarat Bridge is one of the largest engineering projects dedicated to serving the pilgrims in Makkah. It is a fully integrated platform designed to facilitate the pilgrims’ performance of one of the most important Hajj rituals: the stoning of the Jamarat.
Stretching over 950 meters in length and more than 80 meters in width, the bridge consists of multiple levels, each with separate entry and exit points to prevent congestion. It is equipped with cooling systems and water mist sprays to ease the heat, along with emergency pathways and elevators that ensure accessibility for the elderly and persons with special needs.
It is located between Mina and Arafat, about 5-8 kilometers from the middle of Mina and about 7-8 kilometers from the middle of Arafat.
Muzdalifah is one of the sacred sites that pilgrims pass through on their journey to the House of Allah, and it represents an important spiritual station between ‘Arafat and Mina after sunset on the Day of ‘Arafah. Its name is attributed to one of two reasons: first, because people approach (yazdalifun) the Sacred Mosque; and second, because pilgrims spend a portion of the night (zulfan) there in preparation for the ritual of throwing the Jamarat in Mina.
Namirah Mosque, Arafat, Makkah
It is one of the most prominent landmarks of the Sacred Monument and a lasting witness to the events of the Day of Arafah. Built in the 2nd Hijri century, the Prophet (PBUH) performed the combined and shortened Dhuhr and Asr prayers in its precincts on the Day of Arafah. The mosque accommodates over 400,000 worshippers and covers an area of 110,000 m², making it the second largest mosque in Makkah after the Grand Mosque, thanks to its major expansion. It features six towering minarets, each 60 meters high, 64 gates, and a sleek rectangular design with shaded courtyards that can host tens of thousands of worshippers.
Al-Taneem Mosque, Al-Shuqayyah District, Makkah
Masjid at-Tan‘im, also known as the mosque of Sayyida Aisha (RA), is one of the most prominent historical mosques in Makkah and is the closest miqat (station for assuming Ihram) for those performing Umrah.
Situated between Jabal Nu‘aym and Jabal Na‘im in the valley of Nu‘man, the mosque is historically significant as the location where Sayyida Aisha (RA) assumed Ihram for Umrah following the instruction of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) during the Farewell Hajj. For this reason, it is also called the “Umrah Mosque,” being the first station for many pilgrims heading to Masjid al-Haram.
Masjid at-Tan‘im occupies a strategic location, approximately 7.5 km north of Masjid al-Haram along the Makkah–Madinah Road. The mosque covers a total area of 84,000 m², with the mosque building itself spanning 6,000 m². It features two soaring minarets and showcases magnificent Islamic architectural design through its grand windows and doors.
Al-Bay'ah Mosque, Jabal Al-Rusayfah, Mecca
Masjid Al Bay’ah stands in a mountain pass of Thabīr Ghinā, about 450 meters from the Stone Pillar of al-ʿAqabah towards Makkah. It was named “al-Bayʿah” because it was built on the site where the Anṣār pledged allegiance to the Prophet Muḥammad ﷺ in the thirteenth year of Prophethood, embracing Islam, promising support, and inviting him to make hijrah to Madīnah.
To commemorate this event, the Abbasid Khalifah Abū Jaʿfar al-Manṣūr built the masjid in 144 AH (761 CE) in the pass, also called the Mountain Pass of the Anṣār or the Pass of al-ʿAqabah. The masjid was later restored by the Abbasid Khalifah al-Manṣūr al-Mustanṣir in 625 AH (1227 CE), as recorded in two inscriptions—one fixed on its qiblah wall and the other on the southern wall. Further renovations were made in the 11th and 13th centuries AH. Following the expansion of the Stone Pillars area in 2007 CE (1428 AH), the masjid became visible after long being hidden within the pass.
The masjid was built in 144 AH (761 CE) by order of the Abbasid Khalifah Abū Jaʿfar al-Manṣūr and restored in 625 AH (1227 CE) by the Abbasid Khalifah al-Mustanṣir, as documented in inscriptions on the qiblah and southern walls, with further renovations in the 11th and 13th centuries AH.
Rectangular in form, it measures about 25 by 15 meters, covering 375 m². Constructed of stone, brick, and plaster, it features a prayer hall with a portico supported by four columns carrying five pointed arches, a qiblah wall with three arched niches, a central open courtyard, and two entrances to the north and south.
In the modern Saudi era, its historic fabric was carefully preserved and restored under the Prince Muḥammad bin Salmān Project for Historical Mosques.
Al-Ghazzah district of Makkah, next to Omar Ibn Al-Khattab Road (Second Ring Road), approximately 2 km from Masjid al-Haram
Masjid Al-Jinn is one of the historic mosques in Makkah Al-Mukarramah, located in the Al-Hajun area, east of Al-Ma‘la Cemetery, approximately 900 meters north of the Grand Mosque (Al-Masjid Al-Haram). The mosque dates back to the early third century AH (9th century CE).
Al-Khaif Mosque, Mina Valley, Makkah
The Al-Khayf Mosque is one of the well-known mosques in Makkah Al-Mukarramah, specifically located in Mina at the foot of the southern (southeastern) slope of Mount Al-Khayf, about 550 meters southeast of the First Jamarah (Jamarat Al-Ula).
Origin of the Name
The word “Khayf” in Arabic refers to the area of land that lies between the slope of a mountain and the floodplain below. Hence, the mosque was named Al-Khayf after its location. It is also known as Masjid Al-Shajarah (Mosque of the Tree), after the acacia tree (ousaj) that once grew in that area.
Al-Jiʿrānah is considered a significant landmark in the Prophet’s biography, as it is closely associated with the events of the Battles of Ḥunayn and Ṭāʾif, which took place in Shawwal of the eighth year after Hijrah (629 CE) between the Muslims and the tribes of Hawāzin and Thaqīf, along with their allies among the polytheists.
After Allah granted victory to His Prophet (PBUH) in the conquest of Makkah, news of it reached Hawāzin and other tribes. They mobilized for battle, bringing along their women, children, and wealth. The Prophet (PBUH) set out to confront them with twelve thousand Muslims, and the two sides met in the Valley of Ḥunayn. The battle was fierce at first, causing difficulty for the Muslims, but Allah granted them a decisive victory, and they seized abundant spoils.
Ain Zubaydah is located in Wadi Na'man on the road between Taif and Mecca, and its features and canals extend to the area of the holy sites (Mina, Arafat and Muzdalifah).
For those seeking an experience where natural scenery blends with the legacy of the past, Qanṭarat ʿAyn Zubaydah is a must-visit. Its remaining structures—including reservoirs, wells, and way-markers—bear witness to the grandeur of its design and planning, commissioned by Lady Zubaydah, the wife of Abbasid Caliph Harun al-Rashid. This humanitarian project served pilgrims and travelers for centuries, immortalizing her name in history.
From Wadi al-Nuʿman, the remnants of Qanṭarat ʿAyn Zubaydah trace its final course along canals stretching 38 km.
The generosity behind this project continued across ages under the care of caliphs and kings, culminating with His Majesty King ʿAbdulaziz Al Saud—may Allah bless his soul—who ordered its restoration, followed by his sons, preserving and enhancing this historic landmark.
Wadi Al-Asilah, also known as Sha‘b Khalid bin Asid, stretches along the ancient pilgrimage route and preserves valuable Islamic heritage. The site contains inscriptions dating back to the 1st and 2nd centuries AH, including Qur’anic verses, supplications, and the names of individuals, all written in early Hijazi script without dots or diacritical marks.
The valley also features remnants of ancient wells, two of which still flow from the original four that were dug in the past.
